I found an earthworm friend, her name is Francine. What Francine is afraid of is few and far between. She's fought off a fox and put out a fire, without whining once she's not much of a crier. I have a roly-poly pal whose pleasure is puns. He laughs to himself mixing words up just for fun. He might seem a little silly but he's awfully clever, because he finds happiness in any kind of weather. There's a grasshopper Gus who's forgot how to jump. So now he jumps to conclusions on an old rotten stump. He snickers and he sneers at all his buggy peers, although what he really needs is to hug away his fears. I have a cricket named Kris, who croons instead of chirps. Their pipes are as sweet as maple syrup. Kris croons to the crows, and the old buffalo. Singing brings the peace, days Kris is feeling low.

Dad says, "take out the trash." I hope I don't get a rash. Cuz I'm sure it's leaky and overflowing. And it really starts stinking when the wind starts blowing. There's something green, and fuzzy, and growing. Dad says, "take out the trash." Mom says to clean my room. Cuz Gramps and Gran will be here soon. It's not even that messy. Oh, it's perfectly perfect, oh can't you see? Don't you mind that dirty laundry. Mom says to clean my room. Dad says to wash my plate. Otherwise dessert can wait. Sweet potato smeared across. And crusty old spaghetti sauce. I better not forget to floss. Dad says to wash my plate. Mom says to water the plants. So now I've gotta put on pants. If only it would start to rain, raindrops as big as Great Danes. Then I could go inside again. Mom says to water the plants.

Oh we're making a sandwich, here we have our bread! What should we put in between? I've got a pickle. I've got some mustard. Another pickle. Maybe some custard. Got a banana. Kale from Montana. Oh, it's the best sandwich in the world! Oh we're making a sandwich, here we have our bread! What should we put in between? An avocado. Rutabaga. Vegan salami. Sweet potata. Dash of cilantro. Half a poblano. Oh it's the best sandwich in the world! Oh we're making a sandwich, here we have our bread! What should we put in between? A pomegranate. Some boiled cabbage. Three smoked herring. Scoop of horseradish. Sloppy Joe mess. And a lemon zest. Oh, it's the best sandwich in the, best sandwich in the, best sandwich in the world!

The sun in the sky is a friend of mine, she always helps the little plants grow. And the plants that grow require H2O, water often in the form of raindrops. So the raindrops flow to the ground below, and the soil is loving every minute. Now the soil squirms with a zillion worms, all their dancing is making food for tree roots. Everything in this world works together. You and me and the trees and the weather. For the bees in the air, it's only fair that we're all being birds of a feather. All the happy trees make the air we breathe, the oxygen keeps us feeling healthy. So the oxygen that we breathe in is converted to carbon dioxide. Then the CO2, animals make it too, is again absorbed through the tree leaves. Which leaves us with a general gist of understanding what's around us. Everything in this world works together. You and me and the trees and the weather. For the bees in the air, it's only fair that we're all being birds of a feather. Everything in this world works together. You and me and the trees or whatever. For the bees in the air, it's only fair that we're all being birds of a feather.

I've seen the mountain, oh I know the shore. I've been to the city and settled the score. But there's a place I can't reach from just my own two feet, and I get there always, through the rain through the sleet. Oh the birds on the wire, man, they've seen it all. They watch the world as she rises and falls. I've got a safe, warm nesting place for this heart of mine. Just a hop, skip, and jump from here, as the crow flies. Catching rays of sunshine in a jelly jar. Put it on a shelf for when the days are dark. If your days stay bright then, keep it close at hand. Sooner or later somebody might need a friend. A loving smile, the holding of hands. It's a lowdown shame supply don't always meet demand. I've got a great big lake of both. Oh, lucky me! And the water feels great here, man you best believe! Sometimes it's hard to get up, before the sun is around., and the day ahead of you is freaking you out. Just take a tip from a redwood: stand tall and strong. You're a beautiful puzzle piece, just part of nature's song. Catching rays of sunshine in a jelly jar. Put it on a shelf for when the days are dark. If your days stay bright then, keep it close at hand. Sooner or later somebody might need a friend. Sooner or later somebody might need a friend.

I've been digging in my garden bed, digging in my garden bed, I've been digging in my garden bed...what should we grow? We could grow some green beans. I've seen em once in a magazine. I bet they taste so crisp and clean. We should grow some green beans! I've been digging in my garden bed, digging in my garden bed, I've been digging in my garden bed...what should we grow? We could grow some asparagus. It won't be much of a fuss. We could eat it on the bus. We should grow some asparagus! I've been digging in my garden bed, digging in my garden bed, I've been digging in my garden bed...what should we grow? We could grow tomatoes. Put em near the potatoes. Make vegan alfredo. We should grow tomatoes! I've been digging in my garden bed, digging in my garden bed, I've been digging in my garden bed...what should we grow? We could grow some sweet peas. With help from some friendly bees. Oh jeez, can't wait to snack on these. We should grow some sweet peas! I've been digging in my garden bed, digging in my garden bed, I've been digging in my garden bed, digging in my garden bed... And now my garden's full!

It's a cold winter day and we want something warm. We're gonna make hot chocolate and then some popcorn. It's a cold winter day...hot chocolate and popcorn. Take the soy milk from the cupboard and pour it in the pot. Mama turns on the oven and heats it up hot. Take the soy milk from the oven...and heat it up hot. Grab the chocolate chips, and melt them on down. We're going to need a lot, about 300 pounds! Grab the chocolate chips...about 300 pounds. Now mix it all together, we're feeling mellow. Don't you dare forget my marshmallow! Now mix it all together...don't forget my marshmallow! We're popping all the popcorn, pop! pop! snap! We ate it all gone and now it's time to nap. And we drank all the hot chocolate, and now it's time to nap.

Moon Farmer 02:10
What should I be when I grow up? Oh, what should I be? What should I be when I grow up? I could be anything! Oh, I could work for NASA on rocket ships, on computer chips. I could work for NASA and take moon trips. Take moon trips on rocket ships. What should I be when I grow up? Oh, what should I be? What should I be when I grow up? I could be anything! Oh, I could be a journalist and seek the truth, be an expert sleuth. I could be a journalist and interview you. Interview you and seek the truth. What should I be when I grow up? Oh, what should I be? What should I be when I grow up? I could be anything! Oh, I could be a surgeon saving lives, helping people thrive. I could be a surgeon if I try. If I try, saving people's lives. What should I be when I grow up? Oh, what should I be? What should I be when I grow up? I could be anything! Oh, I could be a farmer plowing my field, maximizing yield. I could be a farmer, keeping it real. Keeping it real, plowing my field. What should I be when I grow up? Oh, what should I be? What should I be when I grow up? I could be anything!

Downtown Seattle from a rooftop. The air is cold here, makes my ears pop. Though the horizon may be gray, it's reassuring in some way. A reminder to let life happen as she may. Seeking light within a darkened sky. We wait awhile but then by-and-by, the light that we sought was not part of the plot, there's a beauty still that will never be lost. See the glacier from the hillside. Draped in white as if an ancient bride. The name that she holds is complex a thousand fold, redefining any meanings of old. Fallen sentry of a winter's gale, supporting life now on a grander scale. The mycelium abounds in networks underground. What seems lost right now will in time be found. Downtown Seattle from a rooftop.

As the dew forms on the grass under the overpass, a stream quietly dreams of her day. And from what she can tell, all's well that ends well, and it's a tumultuous trek to the sea. For the seed in the crack, there's no turning back, resources are scarce in a void. So with roots lain down low, the dandelion shall grow, showing strength and resilience to the concrete. Oh they're singing to me, they're all singing to me, and I'm here humming along. Oh the notes are all there, suspended in the air, and I'm just grateful for their song. Old man of the florist shop, has a hitch as he hops, rose to rose, daisies with imperfections. But from what he can see, familiarity, imperfections are nature's own beauty. There's a pigeon in the park, she loves singing in the dark. For the stars are the only ones understand her. So as she coos to the skies, with the stars in her eyes, she hears a symphony echoed in the treetops. Oh they're singing to me, they're all singing to me, and I'm here humming along. Oh the notes are all there, suspended in the air, and I'm just grateful for their song. Oh they're singing to me, ladadadaidadai, and I'm here humming along. Oh the notes are all there, ladadadaidadai, and I'm just grateful for their song. ladadadaidadai etc. Oh they're singing to me, they're all singing to me, and I'm here just humming along.

Daddy listens to peculiar music. Daddy listens to some pretty weird stuff. You’ll never know what’s gonna play next, it could be Frank Sinatra, or X-Ray Spex. Simon and Garfunkel suit just fine, but the Dead Kennedys are next in line. Daddy listens to peculiar music. Daddy listens to some pretty weird stuff. Dolly Parton or Johnny Cash, Chumbawamba, Crass, Pixies and The Clash. DakhaBrakha from Ukraine, Iggy and The Stooges from back in the day. Daddy listens to peculiar music. Daddy listens to some pretty weird stuff. Paganini or the Talking Heads, at 6 AM while you’re still in bed. Igor Stravinsky in the afternoon, while after midnight Belafonte croons. Daddy listens to peculiar music. Daddy listens to some pretty weird stuff. Daddy listens to peculiar music. Daddy listens to some pretty weird stuff. Daddy writes peculiar music.

I love my maple with her great big leaves. On those hot summer days, she gives shade to me. Oh, I love my maple, I love my tree, I love my maple, and she loves me. I love my Scotch pine with her needles and cones. When I'm with my Scotch pine, I am never alone. Oh, I love my Scotch pine, I love my tree, oh, I love my scotch pine, and she loves me. I love my willow growing by the water's side. Growing down to touch the ground, she can be a little shy. Oh, I love my willow, I love my tree, oh, I love my willow, and she loves me. I love my Doug-fir, tickling the top of the sky. Providing food and habitats, Doug-fir is one heck of a guy. Oh, I love my Doug-fir, I love my tree, I love my Doug-fir, and she loves me. Oh, I love my tree friends, I love my trees, I love my tree friends and they love me.

When you take a walk, going round the block it's a perfect time to pick some trash up. You can wear a glove, show a little love, to your neighborhood, your friends, your family, and your pup. If you see a friend, who could use a hand, well I'm certain that they'd appreciate it. Then what's work for one, could be a little fun, and you'll both be glad with what you created. Spreading love around you isn't hard, when you're playing with the right cards. Oh, the love will grow, and before you know, you will see it in your own backyard. When you've got a snack in your fanny pack, but your pal's got nothing in their lunch pail. You could split a treat; both have something to eat. And you'll feel better that your pal's tummy's full. If you're feeling bad about a fight you had, well there's always time to say that you're sorry. When you talk it out, then without a doubt, you will leave things feeling bright and starry. Spreading love around you isn't hard, when you're playing with the right cards. Oh, the love will grow, and before you know, you will see it in your own backyard.

Ya...I Cry 01:55
Sometimes...I cry cuz I’m hungry. Sometimes...I cry when I’m scared. And other times, I miss my parents. And other times, I just don’t wanna share. I might cry if I get a little chilly. I might cry, if I get too hot. I’ll probably cry if I catch a cold. I know I’ll cry, when I get a shot. Sometimes I cry, if I get too tired. Sometimes I cry, when I go to bed. And I might cry, if my milk is too cold. I might cry, when I bump my head. So, yeah I cry, and it’s perfectly normal. And yeah, I cry. And I’ll be just fine. Annnd I know, I’ll be happy later. Just as soon as I stop cryin.

about

This album was recorded for my daughter, Aurora Jack. It was recorded live, in my closet, surrounded by t-shirts, while she took her afternoon naps. Her Grampa Rob (my dad) helped me record this during his October 2022 Washington visit. Most of the songs on this album were created while taking Aurora on daily walks! There are a few older songs that I have rerecorded for this project.
